Other new additions to OSP VII are; a new eyepiece holder!

new eyepiece holder.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Additional fans for the 1.5" thick, 6"minor axis, secondary mirror. These will blow across the face of the glass to remove the boundary layer of heat.

Surface Fans.jpg

___________________________________________________________

New Mirror box cover clamps to better seal in the cold.

Rockler Clamps.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Labeled Clocks! They run off the same battery, in series, and stay in sync.

Clocks.jpg

___________________________________________________________

The Mirror box received a new back cover to reflect the Sun's rays if I open the doors and it keeps the cold in.

Cool Breeze, the mirror box air conditioner is progressing! Here's a view of the control board with a temp controller, dual TC meter with TC's on a thick and thin portion of glass to show temperature uniformity, and, a dew point meter.

Here's a view of the mirror box cover with 4" ducting and the custom AC unit.

Cool Breeze.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Here's a view of the backside of the custom AC unit. The compressor will reside under the truss poles and the Cool Breeze box will be in front of the mirror box along side the truss poles.

Cool Breeze 1.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Next to the scope these parts don't look so big anymore....

CB on the Scope.jpg

___________________________________________________________

What I won't do for good images..., but it's a work in progress.

CB1.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Another view of the AC unit. For now I'll have to still use my box-fan mirror box cover but eventually it'll be air conditioned.

CB.jpg

___________________________________________________________

There's still an aisle way when it's all packed up....

Aisle.jpg

___________________________________________________________

There was a Horned Lizard down by the Poderosa Pine this year!

Horned Lizard.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Arrival to the property with about an hour of daylight....

Arrival.jpg

___________________________________________________________

The scope's out and cooling! Do you see any stars in the blue background?

Cooling.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Maybe this image will help.... What an awesome first night, up until 3am

First Night.jpg

___________________________________________________________

John set up the 13".

13 Inch.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Ron took many awesome 30 second images....

___________________________________________________________

The screened-in area for cooking. It worked quite well.

Screened-in.jpg

___________________________________________________________

We had chicken that first night.

Chicken.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Scope's cooling down and chicken's nearly done....

Chicken1.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Another one of Ron's images illuminating us and the scope with red light....

Lori.jpg

___________________________________________________________

The next morning it was coffee, donuts, and other snackies.

Kuiper and Sagan (Thunder and Lightning, or, Port and Starboard)....

Kuiper and Sagan.jpg

___________________________________________________________

We had many more Desert Paintbrush blooming this year than all the other years combined!

Desert Paintbrush.jpg

___________________________________________________________

One of the bush species is also in bloom this time of year....

Bush Bloom.jpg

___________________________________________________________

The 6"f3.5 needed a little work.... Collimating an f3.5 can be challenging.

6Inch.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Especially when the 2.6" secondary is in an 8" tube, note the concentration....

Concentrating.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Now this is more like it! A scope I can actually work on! I needed to see the laser re-enter the unit after having reflected off all the mirrors.

Hang On.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Cool Breeze II in the making.... A standard air conditioner will be modified to accept the 4" unsulated hoses to cool the primary.

CBII.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Here's the cover with hoses attached.

Hoses.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Using materials from the original Cool Breeze the foam was re-purposed, though the AC unit was placed upon the 1" thick Baltic Birch castor plate.

Foam.jpg

___________________________________________________________

The first time it powered up the air exiting the AC unit into the hose had an air temp of 6F. Eventually it reached -7F. It cooled the mirror to the expected night time temp with ease... :).

6F.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Cool Breeze II.... It too fits under the truss poles leaving an aisle in the observatory.

CBII.jpg

Ron II.jpg

___________________________________________________________

This one has me on the scope as Ron took a 30" image. He also bathed the area in red light to give it a fore-ground.

Me.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Taken from the back of the scope, can you tell what we were looking at...?

Pop Quiz.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Another sunny day followed that star-filled night.

OSP.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Plenty of solar power to charge the batteries.

Panels.jpg

___________________________________________________________

On Saturday we had Ribeye's and whiskey....

Ribeyes.jpg

___________________________________________________________

There's only two shot glasses that match, and, no, no one got to use the red cup....

Whiskey.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Once again another line is drawn across the level of remaining whiskey. A few more years and we'll have to get another!

Well, we were not misty-eyed when we finished that bottle. We'll have to stop in Payson on the way up next time. Today was high winds so we did not observe. Sunday had 40 mph winds and 65mph gusts!

No Mist.jpg

___________________________________________________________

What a good time....

Good Time.jpg

Besides the first night with dwindling contrails, this was the first cloud seen in days....

Cloud.jpg

___________________________________________________________

For the last night we got out the 11x80's on the parallelogram.

11x80.jpg

___________________________________________________________

Ron and John stepped out of the Prowler and saw a monster above the trees. Ron caught the beast in time....
